Abstract The Applied Nuclear Physics Group at Lund University has constructed a CANS (Compact Accelerator-driven Neutron Source). is based around 3 MV, single-ended, Pelletron accelerator, which used to impinge 2.8 MeV deuterium beam into beryllium target. anticipated neutron production will be on the order of 10 n/s in 4π sr, with future upgrades expected increase 11 n/s. energy up 9 peak emission ∼5 MeV. Shielding and moderation provided by large water tank surrounding target, exit ports allow moderated neutrons directed experiments. thermal-neutron flux extraction 6 n/cm 2 /s. forward activities group area neutron-activation analysis, addition broader range related applications.
